Pastoral Social Caritas Coroico is a Christian organisation active in Bolivia. It strives for the integral development of people in order to build a just society and solidarity, based on the Bolivian reality, which contributes to improving the quality of life of the poorest with a view to social, gender and generational equality. Its extensive experience with integral development processes provides FEMI with a good basis for achieving its joint goals.
Project Integral development of seven village communities in Apolo, La Paz department.
Following on from the pilot project completed in 2021 and taking into account the problems identified in the baseline study carried out in 2019, we have arrived at the second three-year plan in the seven village communities. The project focuses on vulnerable groups such as farming families, schoolchildren and female leaders who, in coordination with the local government, are learning to implement measures aimed at adapting to climate change and exercising their rights within a framework of sustainable management of their natural and productive resources.
Productive initiatives are implemented within the framework of sustainable agroforestry systems that are resistant to climate fluctuations, improving the quality of their production (coffee, cocoa, local fruit: Asaí and Copoazú) and their economic income. This also prevents areas of Amazonian forest from being cleared and burned for traditional agricultural production. Young men and women, with and without disabilities, are supported to diversify their economic initiatives and actively participate in their community organisations from a perspective of rights and gender equality. Water committees will function optimally to ensure environmental measures are taken to preserve local water sources and sustainable water supply to families.
