Via indirect sources Ruud Bakhuizen heard and read about Zero-Kap and he was interested. After the first contacts FEMI decided to invest in Zero-Kap. When the investment was converted into a donation, Ruud joined the Zero-Kap board. Since the Zero-Kap working method closely matched FEMI and since Zero-Kap was looking for opportunities for further distribution of the work without this leading to a rise in costs, both boards decided to merge the two organisations.

Effective as of ultimo August 2011 the Zero-Kap association has integrated into FEMI. Thus Zero-Kap has become a registered FEMI trust fund.
