Imani has gained a noticeable position in the Matarare slums. It has become a refuge for many children. By now there are three relief homes and there is a ‘holiday home’ for children on the coast. The police and others also know where to find Imani, when they need help for abandoned children. Apart from care, the children receive social behaviour training. Eventually, many start a vocational education.
During the major riots after the elections a few years ago the Imani houses were spared from vandalism and theft.
